Style Advice

Weddings can be one of the most enchanting and beautiful events to dress for. However, in saying that, if you are unsure of what to wear such an event can also fill you with dread.

Below is an email I received from a lovely reader, Stella, who had this exact dilemma…

Dear Cara,

I have a wedding to attend in a couple of weeks and I have no clue what to wear! It will be a Spring city wedding and I have no dress code to work with. Please help! I need a little inspiration.

Love Stella x

Dear Stella,

Spring is the most popular wedding season. So channel your inner ‘Girl Scout’ and start planning your wedding season outfits early.

The best advice I can give is – don’t leave it until the day of the event to select your outfit {trust me I have been there and definitely done that!}. Don’t forget to plan your heels, handbag and accessories – being prepared in all areas is key to a lovely wedding day {even if it isn’t yours}.

The Darling Bud Of Wedding Season

Feminine and exquisitely pretty, florals are always an exceptional choice for Weddings. Brilliant blooms add a whimsical romance and sweet aesthetic to simple silhouettes and charming accessories. For classic floral dressing, a little cocktail dress in a pretty print is perfect with heels. Be inspired by Erdem’s delightful dedication to elegant florals…

Lovely Lace

The little lace dress has become style staple. Fresh, refined and sweet – the lace dress is all about polished beauty. A vividly coloured little lace dress is a glamorous wedding look… just add heels and go. Take colour note from this delectable Valentino red lace dress…

Bright Eyes {And Dresses}

Bright Spring shades are feminine, fun and positively glowing. From tangerine dreams to wonderful watermelon; zesty tones are the perfect way to welcome Spring colour into your wardrobe. Lanvin’s vivid yellow cocktail dress is perfect to colour note to capture attention…

Stella I am sure you will look gorgeous on the day! I cannot wait to hear what you choose.

Love Cara xx

p.s. if anyone has any style questions or are unsure of what to wear, please feel free to email me or post them on the Uptown Twirl Facebook page…. I cannot wait to be of help!

The Little Black Dress

Finding The Perfect LBD This Party Season

The little black dress – so iconic it is often referred to as simply the ‘LBD’ – is a fail-safe look during the festive season (well any season for that matter).

Made an essential item in every woman’s wardrobe by Coco Chanel in the 1920’s; it has been worn by the world’s most stylish for nearly a century. From Grace Kelly to Marilyn Monroe – the little black dress is sexy, sophisticated and irrevocably chic.

Perhaps the most iconic of all little black dresses, Audrey Hepburn’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s gown, designed by Hubert de Givenchy, came to epitomise the chic just powerful impact a LBD could have. And when it was auctioned in 2006, it set another standard, selling for £410,000 – well over its asking price. Never ever under estimate the value of true style.

While the little black dress remains a sample across seasons and trends, it is constantly revitalised for the times. As Karl Lagerfeld once said: “Since it was invented there has always been a little black dress in the spirit of the moment. Women are never over- or underdressed with a little black dress. A woman never looks bad in one; she can always trust that look.”

Here are a few of the most coveted little black dress styles this season…

Lace

The little lace dress is a style statement. Feminine, fresh and refined; it can take you from day (wear with sweet ballet flats) to evening glamour in an instant (simply add polished heels and go). The new use of lace is all about polished beauty. Très chic…

Prints

Romantic, Feminine and ever-so chic – the polka dot returned as the print of the season. See on Kate Winslet and Liv Tyler; Stella McCartney’s polka dots sat on delicate chiffon over glimpses of seductive skin. While at Miu Miu, swallows became the sweetest print for Fall. Simply exquisite…

What is your fail-safe party dress of the festive season? xx

A Very Fashionable Christmas

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

With just over a month until Christmas Day, the festive fashion spirit is beginning to shine.

Tiffany’s Christmas Campaign

Each year I eagerly await the release of Tiffany’s Christmas campaign. Romantic, whimsical and enchantingly beautiful, Tiffany’s always manage to perfectly capture the wonderful essence of Christmas. Breathtaking New York, precious white snow, beautiful couples and exquisite jewellery – Tiffany’s campaigns are unlike any other. And this year is no exception.  J’dore Tiffany’s!

A Very Lanvin Christmas

Alber Elbaz of Lanvin has designed Claridge’s iconic Christmas tree. Elbaz’s darling sketch of his exquisite Christmas vision, pictured right, has been unveiled and it looks positively Lanvin perfection!

Of being given the Christmas tree honor, Elbaz said: “The concept of the Christmas Tree decoration is to create an installation that carries the spirit of Lanvin, an infusion of tradition and modernity at the same time. The tree is to emanate and bring heartwarming joy to all who work and stay as guests at Claridge’s hotel: It’s my way to wish them a very Merry Christmas.”

The 2009 and 2010 Claridge’s Christmas trees were Dior inspired and created by John Galliano. The Lanvin tree will be unveiled on November 22nd and will be on display in the iconic lobby until January 2nd.

Are you beginning to feel the festive Christmas spirit? xx
