Style Advice

Weddings can be one of the most enchanting and beautiful events to dress for. However, in saying that, if you are unsure of what to wear such an event can also fill you with dread.

Below is an email I received from a lovely reader, Stella, who had this exact dilemma…

Dear Cara,

I have a wedding to attend in a couple of weeks and I have no clue what to wear! It will be a Spring city wedding and I have no dress code to work with. Please help! I need a little inspiration.

Love Stella x

Dear Stella,

Spring is the most popular wedding season. So channel your inner ‘Girl Scout’ and start planning your wedding season outfits early.

The best advice I can give is – don’t leave it until the day of the event to select your outfit {trust me I have been there and definitely done that!}. Don’t forget to plan your heels, handbag and accessories – being prepared in all areas is key to a lovely wedding day {even if it isn’t yours}.

The Darling Bud Of Wedding Season

Feminine and exquisitely pretty, florals are always an exceptional choice for Weddings. Brilliant blooms add a whimsical romance and sweet aesthetic to simple silhouettes and charming accessories. For classic floral dressing, a little cocktail dress in a pretty print is perfect with heels. Be inspired by Erdem’s delightful dedication to elegant florals…

Lovely Lace

The little lace dress has become style staple. Fresh, refined and sweet – the lace dress is all about polished beauty. A vividly coloured little lace dress is a glamorous wedding look… just add heels and go. Take colour note from this delectable Valentino red lace dress…

Bright Eyes {And Dresses}

Bright Spring shades are feminine, fun and positively glowing. From tangerine dreams to wonderful watermelon; zesty tones are the perfect way to welcome Spring colour into your wardrobe. Lanvin’s vivid yellow cocktail dress is perfect to colour note to capture attention…

Stella I am sure you will look gorgeous on the day! I cannot wait to hear what you choose.

Love Cara xx

p.s. if anyone has any style questions or are unsure of what to wear, please feel free to email me or post them on the Uptown Twirl Facebook page…. I cannot wait to be of help!

A Return To Elegance

Entitled ‘Return To Elegance’, Temperley London’s Spring / Summer 2013 collection had the vision of “a late-1950s couture model or a young Sophia Loren”.

Alice Temperley’s vision to modernise her muse while making her “uncomplicated and effortlessly beautiful” was exquisitely achieved. With an effortless sophistication and chic simplicity, Temperley played with the notions of sheer and solid; precision and prettiness; modern and timeless.

In a luxurious colour palette of pale china blue, white, navy, scarlet and black – intensive workmanship shined through in every piece of the collection. Intensive digital prints and delicate floral appliqués combined for looks that were beyond beautiful. Thick horizontal stain bands ran around organza skirts and dresses – evoking a floaty, fun and overtly feminine look.

The freshness of the colour palette – especially the use of crisp white cotton and lace sprinkled with fine crystals – evoked pure loveliness for Summer.

It was a distinct departure for the label, which saw this collection appear much lighter and more luxurious in decedent fabrics and undeniably pretty silhouettes.

Femme Fatale Accessories

Iconic wide-brim hats, statement-making circular sunglasses and sweet net gloves – created an additional dose of drama. While the highly covetable heels were courtesy of Charlotte Olympia.

“It’s just more fun, more playful this season. It’s less about the dress – which is obviously still a really key piece for us – but more about really great separates in high-quality fabrics, and the way you put them together.”
– Alice Temperley

A Spoonful Of Vitamin C

The London runways became a tangerine dream for Fall 2012

From tangerine to blood orange; this is a striking colour palette for Fall. Packing a high-glamour punch; orange can light up a room and delight the senses. It’s refined yet fun; both elegant and sensual; classic but always bold.

This vibrant, zesty hue made an appearance at Mulberry, Stella McCartney, Issa, Jonathan Saunders and more.

At Stella McCartney tones of orange were swirled in an exquisite marble print; while an evening gown in orange lace was truly breathtaking (pictured above). At Issa, orange also appeared in a striking print (dress & tights) and in a gorgeous lace gown (pictured above). Both floor-length lace gowns, with streamlined silhouettes and popping bursts of tangerine intensity, will make for brilliant red-carpet moments…

Will you embrace orange for Fall? xx
