Keeping Warm with AW Trends

Photo1 from whistles.com & Photo2 from flickr.com

This coming season, the designers gave us plenty of gorgeous reasons to look forward to the cooler months. Celebrating streamlined simplicity, you will be able to indulge your senses in ultra-soft leathers, tweeds, cashmeres, velvets and shearling.

But it will be difficult to decide on your winter warmers. Cool Aviator Jackets, chic Capes, classic Coats and incredible Chunky Knits; all look undeniably sleek, sexy and not to mention cosy!

Below are my favourite pieces from the Designer collections & the High Street for  Autumn / Winter…

Shearling Aviator

Two major trends this coming season are the Aviator jacket and Shearling. Stepping in to take over the reins from the biker jacket, the Aviator jacket is cool, chic and effortless to wear. You can slip it on over anything and everything.

Shearling is a sheepskin or lambskin pelt. To achieve the luxurious texture, the shearing process is limited to produce the uniform depth of the wool fibres. The Shearling Aviator popped up at Burberry Prorsum, Pringle of Scotland and Mulberry (& at Mulberry Shearling topped jackets and their cute boots!).

Designer Choice: Burberry Prorsum (pictured above)
The Shearling Aviator was the first outfit on the catwalk at the Burberry Prorsum Autumn / Winter 2010 show. With luxe shearling, decadent leather detailing and gorgeous khaki colour – this jacket hits all the right notes.

High Street Choice: Whistles (pictured above)
Whistles sheepskin parka is a perfect choice to keep warm and nail these two essential Autumn / Winter trends in one. Loving it!

AW Trends – Colour

Colour Your World

Photos from Flickr.com

Tired of all the camel talk? Don’t worry this Autumn / Winter is also bringing some serious eye-popping colour to the forefront! Forget ‘matchy-matchy’ as being blasé, head to toe colour in a kaleidoscope of shades and hues will warm up your wardrobe this coming season.

Be prepared to be swept away with colour! Explosions of colour can breathe new life into your look as well as your outlook on the day. From unexpected colour blocking to fierce bold shades – like acid yellow at Versace – colour demands you to be bold and daring. And don’t be afraid to experiment…a colourful world awaits you!

Ways to wear colour:

Go Head to Toe…
Across the runways the main way to wear colour was all over! We are talking head to toe colour! Complete colour from tip to top can look sophisticatedly glamorous. At Bottega Veneta red leather pants were paired with a rose pink blouse. Take Oscar de la Renta’s blue tweed jacket, navy skirt and coordinating checkered blue tights or check out statement colour dresses by Stella McCartney and Versace.

AW Trends – Feminine Silhouette

Return to 50’s Finesse

Photo from Vogue Australia, Sep 2010

Between ‘Mad Men’, Marc Jacobs and Miuccia Prada, a return to 1950’s waist clinching curves lay ahead for Autumn / Winter 2010. Full skirts, belted waists and luscious lace will add unforgettable polish, charm and glamour to your style. 1950’s silhouettes embellished with modern textures and patterns instantly freshen and revitalise this trend for now.

The inspiration
‘A Fine Romance’ editorial featuring Aussie model, Catherine McNeil, for the September issue of Vogue Australia is the perfect love letter to this trend. Reminiscent of a beautiful 1950’s belle, the hair, make-up, styling, scenery and the clothes are quite simply put… perfect! Featuring pieces from Prada, Louis Vuitton, Hermès along with lust worthy lady-like bags, gorgeous pumps, brooches and elbow length gloves only adding to its splendour!

Embrace your curves…
Nipped in waists and gloriously heaving bosoms means this season is all about female curves. New proportions embrace femininity and look sophisticatedly sexy, without exposing too much skin. Think refined sexiness…

Bardot-esque curves were the order of the day at Louis Vuitton where models walked to the theme music from the 1950’s film ‘And God Created Woman’ – also the name of the collection. The halterneck and strapless bustier shapes seen at Louis Vuitton, will be flattering on women of all shapes and ages.
