Swimwear Trends – Prints, Colour & 60’s edge

Photos from nbcmiami.com

Last week Miami held the Spring / Summer 2011 Mercedes-Benz Swim Fashion Week. Across the catwalks the main trends that started to emerge were patterns, colour & a salute to 1960’s Swimwear sophistication.

Patterns and Prints were everywhere. Bold tribal and ethnic prints were big at Mara Hoffman, perfectly accompanied by body necklaces and feather earrings. The models’ faces were dotted with paint, taking the tribal theme to the next level.

Many shows gave a nod to the 1960’s. Trina Turk’s geometric prints in clashing colours made an impact along with the luxe use of gold throughout her collection – gold hats, embellishments and cover-ups. Embellishment, beading and fringing also made a decedent appearance at Beach Bunny.

However, my favourite collection was undoubtedly White Sands Australia. Now you may think that I am being biased, being an Australian girl myself, but I genuinely think this collection will make women look and feel amazing in these pieces. With high waisted bottoms and cut out strapless bikini tops – the collection had a glamorous, timeless feel – think old Hollywood.

Yet it was also fresh. Muted prints of tropical palms and flowers, zebra inspired and peacock feathers – created a light effortless summer feeling. The shapes were cute yet sophisticated and the construction was amazing… the entire collection was wearable and would compliment many different body shapes and sizes. The contoured bustier with underwire cups will provide great support while creating a beautiful silhouette!

I have included some of my favourites below on the page. So please let me know your feedback and what style swimwear you are rocking this summer.
