Marc Jacobs Is A Genius!

Photos from style.com

Marc Jacobs Spring / Summer 2011 collection was a beautiful blast from the past. The clear seventies inspiration was brought to life in a gorgeous colour palette of muted shades of gold, pink, coral, mauve, cinnamon and copper.

From the very first look through to the last, Jacobs had me dreaming of Studio 54, dancing all night and beautiful style icon Jerry Hall in glamorous Saint Tropez. It also had references to Yves Saint Laurent’s influential ‘Ballets Russes’ collection from 1976.  Seductive, vibrant and with laid-back sexiness; Marc Jacob’s envisioned Spring / Summer is set to be a jubilant, colourful affair!

There were hot pants, halter dresses and strapless jumpsuits slit high on the thigh. Voluminous peasant dresses and tops; sweet crochet swimwear; high-waisted bellbottom trousers; prints on silk as well as an ode to the traditional Missoni Zigzag pattern. Slinky, soft fabrics were worn with wide leather belts while overall mid-calf length prevailed for elegant, chic summer dressing.

Oversized flowers were worn in the model’s big crimped hair or at the neck or on the waist. Dramatic eye make-up made a strong statement, while the model’s feet were adorned with gold glitter platforms. Models carried clutches or chain-link shoulder bags. Then Jodie Foster’s wide-brimmed straw hats almost straight from Taxi Driver took the collection to the next level. The styling was simply put… decadently delicious!

While I have been looking forward to Fall, Marc Jacobs seventies luxe glamour and drama, now has me dreaming ahead to Spring! I love, love, loved this collection! Because as I said above, Marc Jacobs is a genius after all!

  2. I share your enthusiasm about this collection ! Fluidity, sweetness, shameless but non agressive feminity and self confidence in the same silhouettes… That’s really what I would like to wear !
    xx
