Bettina Liano – A 60’s Summer Affair

For the Spring/Summer 2010/11 collection, Bettina Liano played with the idea of light – creating some gorgeous pieces to let the sun shine through.

Seemingly weightless dresses combine with the softest of sheer fabrics to create some darling looks. The result is pure Brigitte Bardot – sweet yet undeniably sexy. The collection taps into the lingerie trend, while still being fresh and youthful. Simple dresses have unexpected details such as bow ties at the straps. The feminine shades of soft pink, apricot, baby blue and white are perfect for a 60’s inspired Summer.

Some of my favourite pieces include: the pink baby-doll dress with the long white tee (pictured right); the floral print high-waisted cigarette pants; and the apricot sheer long sleeve dress with ruffle hem (both pictured below). All completely divine!

A little bit about
Bettina Liano…

Without having ever undertaken a sewing lesson; Bettina Liano launched her label in the 1980’s, creating simply-draped jersey dresses. Liano is renowned for her denim jeans that celebrate and enhance the female form, while not stretching out of shape. Hermès, Birkins & Kardashians… it’s Fridays Espresso News….

LVMH to own over 17% of Hermès

The LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy) group, the world’s largest luxury goods conglomerate, has announced it will increase their stock ownership of Hermès to 17.1%. LVMH currently have 14.2% stock in Hermès and rumours are circulating that in time LVMH are set to take majority share holdings. Hermès is among the most profitable luxury labels through the recent economic downturn. LVMH currently owns Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs, Givenchy and Fendi.

Speaking of Hermès….

Kim and Khloe Kardashian have been spotted looking gorgeous in New York with their Hermès Birkins. Khloe is carrying a striking purple Hermès Birkin while Kim opted for the classic black. Do you think these are the Birkins Kim recently picked up at Hermès in Paris? If you believe the rumours, Kim reportedly bought six regular leather Birkins at around $10,000US each as well as another handbag in crocodile to the tune of $30,000US. Hermès Birkins are an investment after all!

Meanwhile, the Best Dressed
This Week…

At the Fashion Group International’s annual Night of Stars ceremony, where Nicholas Ghesquière received the prestigious Superstar award, many of fashion’s elite turned out looking simply stunning.  Anna Wintour and Kate Bosworth chose striking looks from the Proenza Schouler Spring / Summer 2011 collection. Leighton Meester also looked divine in a Giambattista Valli Spring / Summer 2011 dress.

Meanwhile, Milla Jovovich wore a gorgeous orange Temperley London gown from the Spring / Summer 2011 collection; Jennifer Connelly opted for Balenciaga and Claire Danes looked lovely in a Lanvin dress from the Resort 2011 collection.

The Alexander McQueen label
in Lawsuit

The Hells Angels Motorcycle Group have filed a lawsuit against the Alexander McQueen fashion house for misuse of their trademarked logo. The iconic winged death symbol appears on two Alexander McQueen items – the ‘Hell’s Knuckle Duster Ring’ and Hell’s Knuckleduster Box Clutch’ (both pictured right).

McQueen, known for his high-fashion drama and edge, used similar imagery in other items of his work; his dramatic skull scarves continually growing in popularity.

The ‘Hell’s Knuckleduster Box Clutch’ is available to buy online at Net-A-Porter.com for £1,295. It is described by Net-A-Porter as:

The black embossed-leather box clutch with a gold skull and feather knuckle-duster clasp is a dramatic after-dark accessory. Carry this theatrical extra at glamorous black-tie events with a bold scarlet gown and killer heels.’

Designer Introduction – Marnie Skillings

Some of you may not have heard of Marnie Skillings, so I would like to introduce you. Marnie Skillings is one of my favourite Australian designers. Known for her youthful, playful pieces; Skillings aesthetic often incorporates vintage-inspired prints and textures.

Photos from grazia.com.au

Showing her Spring / Summer 2011 collection at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney; Skillings perfectly captured the whimsical innocence of summer. Her collection entitled ‘Lady.Nimble.Shadow’, was inspired by the Australian summer and an adventurous girl with a witty sense of style.

The sweetest of summer dresses were embroidered with tulle flowers. Vintage brogues were styled with socks and straw fedoras. Handmade pom poms were also added in for good measure. The colour palette shifted as the collection continued. Peach, mint and dusty pink where followed by striking sunset oranges, navy, red and white. Floaty cottons, vivid prints and youthful frivolity … it is a collection that inspired daydreams of warm weather, lazy weekends and a bygone era with its lovely prints and vintage inspired textures.

I hope you enjoy Marnie Skillings’ collection as much as I did xx
