Chic This Week

The Best Dressed Ladies Of The Week Are…

Kate Bosworth, Blake Lively, Leighton Meester & Kylie Minogue all stepped out looking stunning this week in some of my favourite designer looks from the Spring / Summer 11 & Autumn / Winter 10 collections!

The looks on the catwalk…

1>> Kate Bosworth looked divine in an Erdem Spring / Summer 2011 look. The white lace and red embroidered flowers are sophisticated, feminine and simply perfect!

2>> Meanwhile, Blake Lively was style personified in Versace. This Gossip Girl’s fashion style is continually evolving and I am loving her red carpet looks of late.

3>> While in Madrid for ‘Herbal Essences’; another Gossip Girl, Leighton Meester, wore a black dress from the Versus Autumn / Winter 2010 collection. A classic little black dress at it’s best!

4>> And finally, Kylie Minogue performed at the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade wearing a look from the Chanel Fall 2010 collection. The tweed coat with faux fur trims looks delightfully warm yet oh-so chic!

Designer Spotlight on… Dion Lee

A Little Bit About Dion Lee…

I remember reading about Dion Lee back in March 2009 when he first featured in Vogue Australia. He instantly caught my attention with his feminine yet crisply tailored pieces that sculpt around the body.

Focused on the structure and architecture of clothing; Lee’s attention to detail, the precise construction of his clothing and sharp tailoring creates bold, dynamic pieces. His clothes are both, functional yet dramatic – sharp jackets, tailored trousers and cocktail dresses, would fit perfectly into any modern woman’s wardrobe.

Now at just 24 years of age, Lee’s innovative creations are beginning to capture the international spotlight.

Emma Watson wore a look from Dion Lee’s Spring / Summer 2011 collection while in New York recently. Watson, who is becoming quite the style icon, teamed the inkblot mini dress with boots and tights.

Dion Lee
Spring / Summer 2011…

As his sixth collection at Australian Fashion Week and second solo show of the year, all eyes were firmly on Lee’s Spring / Summer 2011 collection. And he did not disappoint.

Using Rorschach blots as a print, Lee’s structural pieces highlighted the movement of the body. Blots printed in intense violet shades with highlights of soft pink, flowed along the body creating truly artful pieces. Some blots almost appeared to take on floral shapes while others were distinctly abstract. There was also an emphasis placed on athleticism. Mesh pieces with racer backs intertwined perfectly with the feminine, yet edgy feel of the collection. Towards the end of the collection, Lee began combining pleating and knots to create some truly divine mini dresses. The dresses had a touch of classic Grecian draping with a distinctly modern edge. They were whimsical and feminine with yet powerful and tough.

Lee’s work is – modern verses classic, structured verses fluid. The collection is concise yet powerful. It is beautiful and most noticeably, innovative…

Valentino Vixens…

On the Red Carpet

This week Anne Hathaway, Alexa Chung and Elle Fanning all chose to look lovely in Valentino.

For the “Love & Other Drugs” New York Premiere, Anne Hathaway chose a stunning Valentino Fall 2010 dress. The adorable tiered silhouette with floral print and fringing is sophisticated yet oh-so sweet. And the long sheer bow at her neck adds the perfect finishing touch. Anne Hathaway always oozes Old-Hollywood glamour on the red carpet and I love this look on her!

Chung wore a dress from the Valentino Resort 2011 collection to the premiere. With a tucked in waist and A-line skirt, this dress gives Chung’s usual off-beat cool aesthetic a definite girly edge. Meanwhile, Elle Fanning looked cute as a button in a strapless Valentino Resort 2011 dress. Covered in divine floral appliqués with a bow at the waist, this dress is just too adorable! Love it!

Valentino Spring / Summer 2011

The perfect word to describe the Valentino Spring / Summer 2011 collection is: DIVINE!

Delicate lace, ruffles, tulle and floral embellishment; this collection is the epitome of classic beauty with a youthful, fresh edge. Looks were belted high on the waist and fell to the floor or mid-thigh. A beautiful colour palette of white, blush pink, black, nude and Valentino red made for an unbelievably beautiful collection. And for Valentino designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli, they received the ultimate stamp of approval – a standing ovation from the founder of the house Valentino himself.
