1940’s Glamour

For the coming Fall season, designers were feeling 1940’s glamour in the air. From Gucci to Miu Miu and Donna Karan – 40’s refined feminine allure was back with a vengeance.

Be transported into the World War II-era, where skirts and dresses were worn to the knee and striking scarlet red lips made for a sensational pout.

Across many collections the 40’s influence could be seen in the sharp pencil skirts; matte red lipstick; and the sophisticatedly sexy accent of accessories – think of those decedent fur shrugs, statement hats, slim belts and elegant gloves.

1940’s silhouettes featured broad shoulders that gracefully tapered into a tailored waist. Almost every outfit contained shoulder pads and looks were finished off with a hat. The strong shoulder gave women a sense of purpose and strength – traits that were considered essential to survive the war. The fashion had to be practical, allow movement and comply within strict rationing. The long decedent beaded gowns of the 1930’s were now considered gaudy and unpatriotic. The 40’s lead the way for minimal, boxy dresses; shorter skirts and neatly belted waists.

1940’s fashion was elegant, refined and authoritative – reflecting the strong sense of purpose as women rolled up their sleeves and did their part on the home front…

“Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2″ World Premiere  – The Fashion…

Emma Watson chose a spectacular Oscar de la Renta fairytale ball gown for the World Premiere of “Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2″ in London last week.  The tulle gown with embroidered bodice and full skirt, from the Oscar de la Renta Fall 2011 collection, was a truly breathtaking fashion moment! Dramatic, romantic and whimsically beautiful… Emma Watson was simply enchanting!

For the after party, Watson changed into a darling embellished Elie Saab dress (one of my personal favourites from the Spring 2011 Couture collection)! (pictured right)

Clemence Poesy also bewitched in a white silk chiffon Nina Ricci dress from the Spring / Summer 2011 collection. Accentuated with black waistband, Poesy is the epitome of French polished chic.

Finally, Bonnie Wright chose a floor-length gown by Miu Miu. The peach long sleeved gown with a ruffed bodice was elegantly reserved. Love her statement Wright and Teague earrings!

The Beckhams’ Welcome Harper Seven Beckham…

David and Victoria Beckham welcomed their first daughter, Harper Seven Beckham, yesterday morning in Los Angeles.  Announcing her arrival on Facebook, David Beckham wrote: “I am so proud and excited to announce the birth of our daughter Harper Seven Beckham. She weighed a healthy 7lbs 10oz and arrived at 7.55 this morning, here in LA. Victoria is doing really well and her brothers are delighted to have a baby sister. xx”

Her middle name, Seven, references her father’s sporting history, having played in the number seven shirt for both Manchester United and England. While it was also revealed by a spokesperson, the couple liked the name Harper, because it was an “old English name” and also had connections with the baby’s country of birth – American novelist Harper Lee.

The Fall Campaigns So Far

The Autumn / Winter 2011 Campaigns are beginning to be released and I have featured some of my favourites so far below. From Freja Beha dressed as a cat for Chanel; to the fresh faced Elle Fanning for Marc Jacobs and Hailee Steinfeld for Miu Miu – it looks set to be a memorable season.

For Chanel, Freja Beha is once again used; however, with completely different results. Beha is firstly pictured as a cat perched in a slightly scruffy photo booth; followed by another shot in the same location, but this time with French written across her forehead. The rough translation is Coco Chanel’s iconic quote “A fashion that does not reach the streets is not a fashion.”  Little has been revealed about the campaign so far, yet rumours are suggesting it was styled by Carine Roitfeld (previously the Editor of French Vogue) and of course shot by Karl Lagerfeld.

Elle Fanning and Hailee Steinfeld both look seriously chic for Marc Jacobs and Miu Miu respectively.

Bottega Veneta’s Fragrance For Women

The Italian luxury fashion House, Bottega Veneta, best known for its signature leather goods, is launching its first fragrance for women.

Described as a “leather, floral chypre” scent; the fragrance consists of: oak moss, Italian bergamot, Indian jasmine sambac, Brazilian pink peppercorns and Indian patchouli. The scent represents the “invisible, private luxury” associated with the House. The elegantly simple bottle is made of Murano glass, (for limited edition) and is decorated with a sweet leather bow. Nine d’Urso, the daughter of French fashion icon Inès de la Fressange, is the face of the campaign.

New ‘IT’ Bag Alert

Mulberry is already home to IT bags the ‘Alexa’ and ‘Bayswater’ and it now looks set for the ‘Polly Push Lock’ to join this beautiful group. Catherine the Duchess of Cambridge was pictured carrying a Mulberry Polly Push Lock handbag while departing for America.

The compact carryall shoulder bag, in textured leather, exudes a luxe vintage aesthetic. Available to purchase through Net-A-Porter for £616.67, I predict this bag is going to be huge (especially now it has a Princess’ seal of approval)!

Beauty Editorial Inspiration

Entitled ‘Forbidden Kisses’, Lily Donaldson features in a gorgeous beauty editorial for Vogue Japan’s August 2011 edition.

The prettiest tones of pink (used from the eyes to the lips and cheeks) create an ultra feminine, playfulness. The softness of the looks play upon Donaldson’s delicate beauty for innocently, seductive results… LOVE THESE LOOKS!

Have a fabulously fashionable weekend! xx
