A Pop Of Prep

It’s time to renew your Country Club Membership…

With the warmer weather fast approaching (in the Northern Hemisphere at least), embrace a leisurely Summer spent playing tennis & lying by the pool.

Take your cue from the Spring / Summer 2012 collections, where Tommy Hilfiger, Stella McCartney and Christopher Kane, showed effortless daytime dressing with a preppy pop.

Rewrite poolside dress codes with sweet matching short sets (think of Stella McCartney’s red gingham shirt, shorts and matching accessories – pictured above).  Meanwhile at Christopher Kane, the classic tennis outfit was given a modern yet romantic reinvention – the skirt was made of darling pearlescent fabric giving it a fresh, feminine air.  At Tommy Hilfiger, the classic houndstooth print experienced a colour overhaul and was teamed with unexpected chunky knits and bold horizontal stripes.

Statement accessories complete the preppy look. Oversized sunglasses and tote bags in bright colours and prints will certainly turn heads by the pool & add a little summer sizzle…

Will you give the preppy look a workout for Summer? xx

Friday Sugar Fix

From sherbet lemon to mint sorbet, pink musk sticks to lavender loveliness – this sweeter than sweet trend is deliciously decedent and positively delicious.

Delicate, feminine and a little bit whimsical, this sugary trend takes an opulently soft approach to Spring / Summer dressing.

Breathe some fresh air into your wardrobe after the dark colours of Winter with delicate pastels and darling embellishment. From the runways of Louis Vuitton to Chanel, Jonathan Saunders, Alexander McQueen and more, fairytale pastels were seductively sweet.

Trimmings and fabrics also took a saccharine note with big lacy collars and oversized white buttons. While divine broderie anglaise dresses, feathers and pearls were equally enchanting. Accessories were kept lady-like and elegant. Pointed kitten heels and structured retro-inspired handbags are positively precious in pastel.

Will your wardrobe experience a sugar high for Spring? xx

The Peplum Returns

From Chanel to Proenza Schouler, Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen, Jason Wu and more, the Peplum silhouette is back with an ultra chic vengeance.

Lady-like, elegant and seductively chic, the peplum silhouette draws attention to the waist and accentuates feminine curves.

Flaunt your curves with elegant panache in the peplum. This whittled-in-at-the-waist silhouette is often teamed with a conservative hemline and is decidedly charming. Always appearing polished and feminine, the sculptural embellishment creates subtle volume around the hips for a flattering shape.

A peplum is essentially the embellishment or ruffle which is incorporated into the waistline of pencil skirts, jackets or dresses. Restrained in silhouette in comparison to the popular 80’s peplum; it still evokes a classic retro aesthetic while appearing effortlessly fashion forward.

When wearing a peplum silhouette, keep your look streamlined and chic with a fitted blouse and heels. Add a thin belt just above the waistline for further definition. Most popular in neutral shades, the peplum also made a runway splash in bold jewel tones (a la Giambatista Valli). Best of all, the peplum is flattering to most body shapes – lending curves to a boyish frame or flaunting the tiny waist of an hourglass figure.

Will you incorporate a peplum silhouette into your wardrobe? xx
