Best Dressed List

The Screen Actors Guild Awards

And The Best Dressed Goes To…

Hailee Steinfeld! The young starlet was exquisitely fresh, fun and feminine in a gown from Prada’s Spring / Summer 2011 collection.

In a look that many would have found difficult to wear – vibrant pink, orange and black horizontal stripes – Steinfeld pulled it off in a spectacular fashion. André Leon Talley, of Vogue US, agreed declaring Steinfeld as his best dressed of the night. Of her look he said: “What made it so right for the teenager was the just-out-of-bed tousled hair (the style of the evening) looking so natural on her, deft makeup, and no bling. She didn’t try too hard.”

Proenza Schouler’s First Vogue Cover

The February 2011 issue, is the first Vogue cover for both Kristen Stewart and designers, Proenza Schouler (Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough).  Stewart appears on the cover wearing a gorgeous look from the Spring / Summer 2011 collection. Photographged by Mario Testino, Lazaro Hernandez has said of Stewart,

“She’s very much the girl we have in mind when we design. It’s cool to see Kristen in the clothes because she’s not ‘the lady, and that’s exactly who we see in those clothes”…

Rodarte Not Eligible For An Oscar Nomination For Black Swan

Rodarte will not receive an Oscar or credit for the extraordinary ballet costumes they have created for Black Swan (pictured above right). Rodarte created 40 ballet costumes along with Natalie Portman’s knitwear and dresses for the film. At the time Rodarte didn’t negotiate credits in their initial contract and were not part of the Costume Designers Guild until recently. The guild rules state only the official designer is eligible. Costume designer, Amy Westcott, has been given the front credit. The film is currently nominated for a Costume Design BAFTA and is anticipated to also receive an Oscar nomination…

The Hermès Paris Window Display

Unveiling the Winter 2011 window display in Paris (pictured above left); the words whimsical, opulent, romantic and delightful immediately spring to mind. The intricate display windows change every season and are the work of Design Director, Leïla Menchari. Handbags and other luxury items are incorporated into the fairytale like display. This is one seriously gorgeous window…

Chic This Week –
Michelle Obama

In a delightfully unexpected twist, The First Lady, Michelle Obama wore a stunning Alexander McQueen gown this week (pictured right). In shocking red, the gown has an exquisite floral print in black, but I also love the beautiful shoulder and neckline detailing. My favourite First Lady of Fashion moment yet!…

The Alexander McQueen label
in Lawsuit

The Hells Angels Motorcycle Group have filed a lawsuit against the Alexander McQueen fashion house for misuse of their trademarked logo. The iconic winged death symbol appears on two Alexander McQueen items – the ‘Hell’s Knuckle Duster Ring’ and Hell’s Knuckleduster Box Clutch’ (both pictured right).

McQueen, known for his high-fashion drama and edge, used similar imagery in other items of his work; his dramatic skull scarves continually growing in popularity.

The ‘Hell’s Knuckleduster Box Clutch’ is available to buy online at Net-A-Porter.com for £1,295. It is described by Net-A-Porter as:

The black embossed-leather box clutch with a gold skull and feather knuckle-duster clasp is a dramatic after-dark accessory. Carry this theatrical extra at glamorous black-tie events with a bold scarlet gown and killer heels.’

Designer Introduction – Marnie Skillings

Some of you may not have heard of Marnie Skillings, so I would like to introduce you. Marnie Skillings is one of my favourite Australian designers. Known for her youthful, playful pieces; Skillings aesthetic often incorporates vintage-inspired prints and textures.

Photos from grazia.com.au

Showing her Spring / Summer 2011 collection at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney; Skillings perfectly captured the whimsical innocence of summer. Her collection entitled ‘Lady.Nimble.Shadow’, was inspired by the Australian summer and an adventurous girl with a witty sense of style.

The sweetest of summer dresses were embroidered with tulle flowers. Vintage brogues were styled with socks and straw fedoras. Handmade pom poms were also added in for good measure. The colour palette shifted as the collection continued. Peach, mint and dusty pink where followed by striking sunset oranges, navy, red and white. Floaty cottons, vivid prints and youthful frivolity … it is a collection that inspired daydreams of warm weather, lazy weekends and a bygone era with its lovely prints and vintage inspired textures.

I hope you enjoy Marnie Skillings’ collection as much as I did xx
