Style Advice

Weddings can be one of the most enchanting and beautiful events to dress for. However, in saying that, if you are unsure of what to wear such an event can also fill you with dread.

Below is an email I received from a lovely reader, Stella, who had this exact dilemma…

Dear Cara,

I have a wedding to attend in a couple of weeks and I have no clue what to wear! It will be a Spring city wedding and I have no dress code to work with. Please help! I need a little inspiration.

Love Stella x

Dear Stella,

Spring is the most popular wedding season. So channel your inner ‘Girl Scout’ and start planning your wedding season outfits early.

The best advice I can give is – don’t leave it until the day of the event to select your outfit {trust me I have been there and definitely done that!}. Don’t forget to plan your heels, handbag and accessories – being prepared in all areas is key to a lovely wedding day {even if it isn’t yours}.

The Darling Bud Of Wedding Season

Feminine and exquisitely pretty, florals are always an exceptional choice for Weddings. Brilliant blooms add a whimsical romance and sweet aesthetic to simple silhouettes and charming accessories. For classic floral dressing, a little cocktail dress in a pretty print is perfect with heels. Be inspired by Erdem’s delightful dedication to elegant florals…

Lovely Lace

The little lace dress has become style staple. Fresh, refined and sweet – the lace dress is all about polished beauty. A vividly coloured little lace dress is a glamorous wedding look… just add heels and go. Take colour note from this delectable Valentino red lace dress…

Bright Eyes {And Dresses}

Bright Spring shades are feminine, fun and positively glowing. From tangerine dreams to wonderful watermelon; zesty tones are the perfect way to welcome Spring colour into your wardrobe. Lanvin’s vivid yellow cocktail dress is perfect to colour note to capture attention…

Stella I am sure you will look gorgeous on the day! I cannot wait to hear what you choose.

Love Cara xx

p.s. if anyone has any style questions or are unsure of what to wear, please feel free to email me or post them on the Uptown Twirl Facebook page…. I cannot wait to be of help!

Defining Your Style

I believe every woman can be iconic every day…

Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly and Marilyn Monroe will live forever as three of the most iconic women the world has ever seen. Renowned for their timeless style, sophistication and beauty, they captivated the world with their natural elegance and charisma – still continuing to inspire and delight today.

Each of these women had an innate sense of style and knew their best assets.

Defining your style and making conscious decisions while shopping {pieces that are timeless, long-lasting and represent you}, can secure your status as the ‘leading lady in your own life’.

I believe every woman can be iconic every day. That igniting style and effortless glamour from within is all about knowing oneself and having the confidence to do so.

Some of the ‘Style Points’ I try to live by include:

>> Be authentic to oneself
>> Be confident, positive and happy
>> Always smile
>> Be graceful and maintain good posture
>> Be gracious, polite and kind
>> Always keep clean, neat and fresh
>> Choose pieces which look best on me
>> Wear clothes of the highest quality
>> Make an effort to look my best everyday whatever the occasion
>> Fragrance, make-up, hair and accessories are an extension of my style and require equal consideration
>> Be unique

What is ‘style’ to you? xx

My Top 5 Beauty & Make-Up Must Haves…

I have had a couple of people ask me about my beauty routine and the products I simply cannot live without. While I try to keep my routine simple and really rather effortless {I have a tendency to run late in the morning}, here are my top 5 beauty product must-haves…

1. BareMinerals Foundation

My make-up routine begins every morning with BareMinerals. I have very sensitive skin, so I choose BareMinerals as it is formulated without preservatives to promote clear, healthy skin.  First I use BareMinerals Primer – to even out my complexion and create a smooth texture for my foundation coverage. I then apply BareMinerals Foundation (which looks like a powder yet feels like a cream); followed by their Mineral Veil for my skin finale (to absorb oil and soften the complexion).

2. Chanel Mascara

If your eyes are the windows to your soul, then Mascara is the curtains. Widening and intensifying the eyes, mascara is one of my absolute favourite beauty products. Chanel ‘Inimitable Intense’ Mascara is voluminous and lengthening. It adds an instant bold glamour to your look. Simply lash magnifique!

3. Lancome Lipstick

I am a ‘statement lip’ kinda-girl. I forgo sexy smoky eye trends and sultry cat eyeliners in favour of bold, dramatic colour for lovely luscious lips. Shopping for lipsticks is a favourite past time of mine and I recently discovered how truly brilliant Lancome lipsticks are. One I absolutely adore is the ‘Rouge In Love’ collection in shade 34 (Rose Boudoir) – an eye-popping tone perfect for cocktail hour. Je t’aime Lancome Lips!

4. Pretty Perfumes

Coco Chanel believed that women should wear perfume wherever they wanted to be kissed. Perfume is a very personal statement. Your signature scent is an extension of your personality and character. Two of my favourites are: Chanel ‘Coco Mademoiselle’ and Chloé ‘L’Eau de Chloé’. Spray your perfume lightly on pulse points morning and evening.

5. Moisturising Moments

I moisturise my hands a couple of times a day and I love Coconut Body Butter from The Body Shop. A simple yet classic product, the creamy texture and divine Summery fragrance are uplifting every time you apply it.
