May Inspiration

When inspiration strikes it creates all kinds of magic. Magic that will keep you working through the night, when previously you would have been too tired to even stand. It can send you on missions and adventures; meeting people and seeing places you never even imagined.

But sometimes it can be equally hard to find. You can go searching; yet this in itself can feel like the more you look, the less likely it will ever appear. Yet even in the worst drought of inspiring content a light bulb moment will eventually appear… {I said eventually}. And it could be at any time of day or night. And it will most likely be in the least likely of places – the supermarket, swimming pool or even the elevator. Yet when it does strike I have found you have to be ready for it. An inspiration fairy won’t necessarily stay too long, especially when you have hundreds of things already occupying your mental ‘to do’ list.

So, when it comes to starting a new collection of artworks, I always create an inspiration board to ignite my imagination and set my mind racing. Who is my woman; where is she going; where is she from; what is she wearing; what is she reading? And so on and so on. I also carry a little notebook or have my iphone nearby to jot down any sudden strokes of genius.

Right now my inspiration board looks a little like this…

It’s all about monochromatic detail; bursts of colour; inspiring quotes; beautiful flowers; different textures and embellishment; statement pieces; New York; timeless beauty; exquisite hair; Chanel; a way of living glamorously every day…

I would love to know what is inspiring you right now? xx

Best Of NY Fashion Wk

My favourite look to appear on the catwalk of New York Fashion Week, was undoubtedly the striped Oscar de la Renta Ball gown…

Classic and elegant, stripes evoke an effortless minimalism synonymous with chic Parisian style.

As one of the most iconic prints of all time, stripes have an unmistakable allure, which has long been favoured by many of the world’s most stylish.

Oscar de la Renta’s striking Spring / Sumer 2013 collection, was an ode to exquisite ball gown styles and complete sophistication. Filled with charming and refined details, the collection had a playful, youthfulness and retro elegance. The show stopping striped ball gown was the epitome of chic. The duchess satin and silk strapless gown, featured numerous cheerful nautical stripes front and back… Je t’aime!

More On Stripes…

Introduced into the Fashion world by Coco Chanel in 1917, stripes became the effortless go-to for laid-back cool. Inspired by French sailors after a trip to the seaside, the humble blue and white thinly striped nautical sweater, was given a fashion makeover by Chanel. Legend has it, Chanel borrowed one from her lover and tailored it to her body – creating an iconic look that is still just as popular today.

Stripes have since been worn by many of the most influential names in history {from Marilyn Monroe, Pablo Picasso, Brigitte Bardot, and more}.

New York Fashion Week Part4

Betsey Johnson

The Betsey Johnson label is all about attitude and for Spring / Summer 2012, the iconic New York designer celebrated the female form with a fresh vitality and insatiable appetite for all things youthful, fun and sexy.

Taking her inspiration from burlesque and legendary bombshell Brigitte Bardot, the collection was anchored around sexy, lingerie-inspired ensembles – perfect to embrace and flaunt your curves in.

Pieces were slightly sheer, flirty and playful. Bra straps went peak-a-boo under pretty party dresses; while hemlines went from racy thigh-high to floor length. Johnson’s signature prom dress also appeared – worn strapless with a sweetheart neckline and frothy skirt. Each look struck the perfect balance between fitted and loose. Tops fell off the shoulder; lace-up corsets clinched in the waist; chic leather jackets in hot pink, black and white were trimmed with ruffles.

Yet it was the accessories that further amped up the volume and took the collection into overdrive. Fingerless gloves, lightning bolt earrings and chunky statement necklaces combined for a mesmerising runway presentation. Not to mention the pert hats accentuated with flowers, sheer knee high socks worn with sky-high heels and that unmistakable bombshell hair.

When Johnson did take to the stage, she performed her signature cartwheel and landed in a split with her arms raised boldly in the air. Another epic runway collection unlike any other…

What do you think of this Betsey Johnson collection? xx
