Beauty Look Of The Week… Rodarte’s Sun Kissed Glamour

Rodarte’s Fall 2011 collection took inspiration from the American Plains of Terrence Malick’s “Days Of Heaven”. Reminiscent of glowing sunsets, the colour palette of golden wheat hues imitate amber-lit mornings and dusk, while also brightening the complexion.

To achieve the look, start with a flawless complexion and a dusting of bronzing power underneath the cheekbones for added definition. Yellow and golden eye shadow tones are then applied around the rim of the lids, brow bone and in the crease. The inner rims of the eyes are lined with fresh toned pencil, before the look is finished off with a rich copper-berry shade on the lips.

The Rodarte make-up and texturised tresses are prefect for a glowing Summer look.

Kim Kardashian’s Wedding Gowns

The first cover of Kim Kardashian on her Wedding Day has been released. The People’s Magazine cover shows a good glimpse of one of the magnificent Vera Wang gowns she wore on her big day.

It’s been reported that just two days before the wedding Kim hadn’t decided which one of the dresses she was going to wear for her big “I do” moment. Of her chosen gown, Vera Wang said: “It was Cinderella. But Cinderella with a very sexy body. She has a very Liz Taylor or Sophia Loren kind of body and we didn’t want to lose that.” Kim later changed into her two other gowns for the festivities (see sketches below).

Lady Gaga Fashion Label

Lady Gaga and her little sister, Natali Germanotta, are believed to be creating a fashion line.

The line will reportedly be “relatively normal and wearable”, with the pair intending to remodel iconic dresses from the past but with a twist – think of Marilyn Monroe’s white dress but created rubber… interesting!

Marc Jacobs For Dior?

The rumour mill is still in overdrive with reports indicating Marc Jacobs will move to the helm of Christian Dior, while Phoebe Philo will take on his position at Louis Vuitton.

Now Marc Jacobs president, Robert Duffy, has added fuel to the fire by commenting, “[Marc] could do a couture line”. Meanwhile, no shortlist has been revealed by Dior and no date has yet been set for an announcement of who will take over as Creative Director.

Happy Thursday! xx

Drew Barrymore channels ‘Old-Hollywood’ glamour for the Autumn / Winter 2011/12 campaign for Neiman Marcus. The campaign features Barrymore lying on a crumpled car, exuding timeless chic.

The images have caused some speculation online, with some drawing reference to photographer Robert Miles’ famous image of Evelyn McHale, who committed suicide in 1947 by jumping from the observation deck of the Empire State Building and landing on a parked limousine. However, a spokesperson for Neiman Marcus has said,‘”The shoot tells the story of a star’s transformation”…

Dylan Lauren’s Wedding Gown

When Dylan Lauren wed Hedge Fund Manager, Paul Arrouet, of course she would call upon her father to design her gown. Combining duchesse satin, tulle, silk and georgette – the handmade gown is romantic, whimsical and timeless chic perfection.

Of creating a spectacular gown for his daughter, Ralph Lauren said: “I want to just give her something that she’d really treasure and give her something that would be really amazing. I want her to feel fantastic”

Of the gown, Dylan Lauren said: ‘I told my fiancé, I may sleep in it. I might wear it the next day. It’s really beautiful. I know that every bit of his energy and heart went into making sure that I liked it.”

For all the beautiful details, Andre Leon Talley will give a personal account of the day in the August edition of American Vogue.

Versace Says No To Sandblasting Denim

Versace has joined the Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC) which aims to improve work conditions in the textile industry.

Sandblasting is often used to give jeans a faded look. The sandblasting technique can cause fatal health risks to workers. It was outlawed in Europe in 1966; however, still occurs in other countries around the world, such as Bangladesh, China, Egypt and Mexico.

The CCC has stated, “After an intensive campaign… the Italian textile brand Versace has just announced that it will join other denim manufacturers around the globe in calling for a ban on the practice of sandblasting.”  Launched last year, other brands who have already joined the campaign include: Benetton, Burberry, Carrera Jeans, Karen Millen, Gucci Levi-Strauss, H&M, Pepe Jeans and Replay.

July Inspiration…

My quote of the month is from the darling iconic beauty Audrey Hepburn… “I believe in manicures. I believe in overdressing. I believe in primping at leisure and wearing lipstick. I believe in pink. I believe happy girls are the prettiest girls.  I believe that tomorrow is another day, and… I believe in miracles.”

I love the pure sweetness of Audrey Hepburn’s overtly girly quote and I am determined to embrace her philosophy for July. This month I am all about ‘beauty’ and maintenance – my nails will always be perfectly manicured and I shall be wearing lipstick in an assortment of luscious shades every day. Overdressing is already a forte of mine; however, I am certain it can be taken to a new level for Audrey. Let the challenge begin (I cannot wait)!

On another exciting note, Uptown Twirl will be turning one on July 10th! Celebrations will commence soon so be sure to watch this space!

In the meantime, here are some of the things that are inspiring me for July….

What are your July Inspirations? xx
