The Peplum Returns

From Chanel to Proenza Schouler, Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen, Jason Wu and more, the Peplum silhouette is back with an ultra chic vengeance.

Lady-like, elegant and seductively chic, the peplum silhouette draws attention to the waist and accentuates feminine curves.

Flaunt your curves with elegant panache in the peplum. This whittled-in-at-the-waist silhouette is often teamed with a conservative hemline and is decidedly charming. Always appearing polished and feminine, the sculptural embellishment creates subtle volume around the hips for a flattering shape.

A peplum is essentially the embellishment or ruffle which is incorporated into the waistline of pencil skirts, jackets or dresses. Restrained in silhouette in comparison to the popular 80’s peplum; it still evokes a classic retro aesthetic while appearing effortlessly fashion forward.

When wearing a peplum silhouette, keep your look streamlined and chic with a fitted blouse and heels. Add a thin belt just above the waistline for further definition. Most popular in neutral shades, the peplum also made a runway splash in bold jewel tones (a la Giambatista Valli). Best of all, the peplum is flattering to most body shapes – lending curves to a boyish frame or flaunting the tiny waist of an hourglass figure.

Michelle Williams

Ahead of the Oscars and her possible win for ‘My Week With Marilyn’ for Best Actress, today we take a look at Michelle Williams striking style.

From the ethereal beauty of a hand-beaded Chanel couture gown to the epitome of cool-girl chic in Jason Wu, Michelle Williams is never afraid to take a risk on the red carpet.

Often opting for elegant black and white, Williams has the perfect fashion-forward yet classic style. Elegant yet never fussy, beautiful but never expected. With a love for Jason Wu, Chanel, Erdem, Victoria Beckham and more, Williams is becoming a modern day style icon.

‘Elegant yet never fussy, beautiful but never expected.’

Choosing looks to perfectly complement her platinum crop, Williams understands the ‘less is more mantra’. Her refined, natural make-up and simple, elegant diamond jewellery evoke a timeless beauty.

A personal favourite: The exquisite Vera Wang saffron gown, worn by Williams to the 2006 Oscars (pictured above). Her relaxed chignon, red lips, and vintage necklace exude ‘Old-Hollywood glamour’ to perfection.

Do you covet Michelle Williams’ style? Who is a modern day style icon to you? xx

Leave your jewels at home

Bedazzle with darling crystals encrusted in your gown…

Exuding effortless sophistication and delicate attention-to-detail, designers added crystals and beading directly to their pieces for Spring / Summer 2012.

Crystal embellishments added texture and shine to the runways and replaced the need for dangling earrings or statement necklaces. At Chanel, iridescent pearls were sewn exquisitely into gowns, while at Christopher Kane crystal flowers encased the body with dainty feminine beauty. At Sass and Bide embellishment took a walk on the wild side, with beaded tribal patterns peaking visual interest.

Perfect for a modern take on day-time glamour, embellishment around the neckline is fresh, fun and simply… sparkling!

Will you frame your face with crystal embellishment? xx
