What Is Elegance?

There is something undeniably alluring; enchanting; memorising even about someone with elegance.

It’s seemingly an innate characteristic – a quality that just exudes from some people, like their natural beauty. Yet, while elegance can quite easily be classed as ‘je ne sais quoi’ or something special you just cannot place, it can also be pin pointed to many subtle details. A person’s poise; their style; their words; their manners. It’s a series of things culminating to become this intangible quality – elegance.

And while I have a long way to go before I consider myself truly elegant, here are some of the qualities that instantly come to my mind when I think this enchanting characteristic…

Best Of NY Fashion Wk

My favourite look to appear on the catwalk of New York Fashion Week, was undoubtedly the striped Oscar de la Renta Ball gown…

Classic and elegant, stripes evoke an effortless minimalism synonymous with chic Parisian style.

As one of the most iconic prints of all time, stripes have an unmistakable allure, which has long been favoured by many of the world’s most stylish.

Oscar de la Renta’s striking Spring / Sumer 2013 collection, was an ode to exquisite ball gown styles and complete sophistication. Filled with charming and refined details, the collection had a playful, youthfulness and retro elegance. The show stopping striped ball gown was the epitome of chic. The duchess satin and silk strapless gown, featured numerous cheerful nautical stripes front and back… Je t’aime!

More On Stripes…

Introduced into the Fashion world by Coco Chanel in 1917, stripes became the effortless go-to for laid-back cool. Inspired by French sailors after a trip to the seaside, the humble blue and white thinly striped nautical sweater, was given a fashion makeover by Chanel. Legend has it, Chanel borrowed one from her lover and tailored it to her body – creating an iconic look that is still just as popular today.

Stripes have since been worn by many of the most influential names in history {from Marilyn Monroe, Pablo Picasso, Brigitte Bardot, and more}.

Indulge In Beautiful Sleepwear

Pyjamas are one of my favourite little indulgences. Luxurious, comfortable and chic – there is something decadently alluring about slipping into bed in style.

Pyjamas have an unmistakable charm. It’s a quiet luxury and languid sophistication. Draping loosely around the body, a classic pair of men’s style pyjamas evoke nonchalant vintage glamour.

Coco Chanel recognised the effortless style and beautiful fluidity of a classic pair of pyjamas. During the 1920’s, Chanel would often lounge in her pyjamas (which at the time were considered inappropriate for women). She started to create luxurious sets for her clients using patterned silk, satin and Indian cotton and the trend soon caught on.

Many designers continue to reinterpret the classic pyjama style with fresh vigour and panache. From Tom Ford to Louis Vuitton, designer pyjamas bring additional luxury to these gorgeous pieces.

A perfect pick-me-up, indulge in some beautiful sleepwear as a special gift to yourself…

Some Pyjama inspiration…

Did you know… Claudette Colbert, the silent film star, was the first woman to appear on screen wearing pyjamas? They were silk Chanel of course xx
