I’m Back!

Hello Lovely Readers,

I’m back! No seriously, I am! I am back in business.

It has been a long time coming and while I have previously ‘threatened’ several comebacks; I feel now is the perfect time to breathe new life into UptownTwirl; build my business; and lead my best, most stylish life yet.

If someone had said to me ‘pre-Maxie’, I would make less than a handful of posts on UptownTwirl in 2013 I would have thought them completely and utterly mad. ‘Pre-Maxie’ I had visions of my beautiful angel sleeping peacefully in his bassinet next to me while I created extraordinary content and took my business to new heights. It was going to be my most productive year yet.

So what happened?

To be brutally honest I was exhausted. Not just the sleep deprived baby exhaustion everyone tells you about {not that you really listen until it happens to you} but more so tired and weary from years of burning the midnight oil {on business; on blogging; on side projects; on personal projects; on client projects; on light bulb moments; etc; etc; etc}. I didn’t know where it was all going and if that was somewhere I wanted to end up anyway.

So what have I been doing this last year?…

I have immersed myself in all the joys, the milestones, the challenges {and quite often the tears} this new chapter of my life brought me. It has been the most thought-provoking yet rewarding and undoubtedly best experience of my life. Beside my usual daily intake of Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, etc; I added baby and parenting articles to the mix. So if you happen to have any questions about infant sleep {or lack thereof} I will probably be able to give you a multitude of answers and explanations.

And while I don’t want to make unrealistic promises about posting daily and give general lip service about how I have turned a corner and am back on my blogging A-game {which I am just so you know!}; but I do just want to say you will be seeing a lot more of me again. And I am so excited to be back.

So, without further ado I give you my first article back (it’s above this post or you can click here}. I hope you enjoy.

Love & kisses

p.s. I’ve missed you.

A Cult Beauty Christmas

Christmas is without a doubt my favourite time of year, so I was beyond excited when asked to create the 2013 Christmas campaign artwork for UK brand, Cult Beauty.

Using bold black lines and a beautiful colour palette of gold, green and red– the campaign artwork had to exude the elegance of the Cult Beauty brand while still evoking the frivolity of the festive season.

Many of the artwork pieces feature the signature Cult Beauty Christmas gift wrap – the elegant black and gold fern print coming together perfectly with the luxurious black ribbon and delicate line detailing.

The Christmas artwork will be featured across the Cult Beauty website throughout the holiday season {i.e. particularly the ‘Give & Get Gorgeous’ Ultimate Gift Edit} as well as appearing on affiliate banners around the web.

More of my artwork for the Cult Beauty Christmas Campaign…

Readdressing One’s Style

After taking a couple of months ‘baby vacation’, I have given much thought to what my first official fashion article back would encapsulate…

Whether it would be an Espresso Shot Of Fashion News; a new trend sweeping the industry; or some of my favourite looks from Fashion Week? And while each of these topics has become an integral component of Uptown Twirl – I wanted to jump back in with a passion. To write about something that is important to me and a topic that has recently been playing on my mind…

Readdressing One’s Style

Having a 5month old has made me stop and reconsider my style. While I was quite content with my ‘pregnancy look’, I am still caught in the middle between my old pre-pregnancy wardrobe and my post-natal attire. While on a day-to-day basis this can be most frustrating, it has given me a chance to stop and readdress my look. What do I want my style to say to the world?! What is my style now?!

What Is Impeccable Style?

Impeccable style to me… it’s a natural elegance and an unmistakable chic calm that exudes someone’s demeanour and can ignite a room.  It’s a cleanliness and simplicity. It’s a quiet confidence and polished point of view that differentiates someone’s style from all of those around them.

Back To Basics

Like most women in the world, I aspire to be stylish (especially at this moment in my life when up until recently sleep deprivation was ongoing). So for this interim period of my wardrobe life, I have reinvented my style to embrace basic, key pieces that can take me from day to night; from play dates to business meetings.

Men’s style white shirts; skinny navy trousers; soft grey knits; little black dresses – have become my go-to pieces. While red lipstick shades; neatly manicured fingernails; sweet ballet flats; and exquisitely crafted handbags – my fail-safe accessories.

Going back to basics can give your look a clean slate and eliminate any of the white noise around your style. Polished, fresh and unpretentious, wardrobe basics should really be called wardrobe must-haves.

Colour is Key

Enduring style requires a classic colour palette. A beautiful soft grey; navy; camel; red; and of course black – easily create timeless pieces and enable you to build a solid wardrobe foundation.

Now & In The Future

As my look continues to evolve with this exciting stage of my life, I am looking forward to finding, embracing and loving my own personal style.

But I would love to know…
how would you describe your style? xx
