Readdressing One’s Style

After taking a couple of months ‘baby vacation’, I have given much thought to what my first official fashion article back would encapsulate…

Whether it would be an Espresso Shot Of Fashion News; a new trend sweeping the industry; or some of my favourite looks from Fashion Week? And while each of these topics has become an integral component of Uptown Twirl – I wanted to jump back in with a passion. To write about something that is important to me and a topic that has recently been playing on my mind…

Readdressing One’s Style

Having a 5month old has made me stop and reconsider my style. While I was quite content with my ‘pregnancy look’, I am still caught in the middle between my old pre-pregnancy wardrobe and my post-natal attire. While on a day-to-day basis this can be most frustrating, it has given me a chance to stop and readdress my look. What do I want my style to say to the world?! What is my style now?!

What Is Impeccable Style?

Impeccable style to me… it’s a natural elegance and an unmistakable chic calm that exudes someone’s demeanour and can ignite a room.  It’s a cleanliness and simplicity. It’s a quiet confidence and polished point of view that differentiates someone’s style from all of those around them.

Back To Basics

Like most women in the world, I aspire to be stylish (especially at this moment in my life when up until recently sleep deprivation was ongoing). So for this interim period of my wardrobe life, I have reinvented my style to embrace basic, key pieces that can take me from day to night; from play dates to business meetings.

Men’s style white shirts; skinny navy trousers; soft grey knits; little black dresses – have become my go-to pieces. While red lipstick shades; neatly manicured fingernails; sweet ballet flats; and exquisitely crafted handbags – my fail-safe accessories.

Going back to basics can give your look a clean slate and eliminate any of the white noise around your style. Polished, fresh and unpretentious, wardrobe basics should really be called wardrobe must-haves.

Colour is Key

Enduring style requires a classic colour palette. A beautiful soft grey; navy; camel; red; and of course black – easily create timeless pieces and enable you to build a solid wardrobe foundation.

Now & In The Future

As my look continues to evolve with this exciting stage of my life, I am looking forward to finding, embracing and loving my own personal style.

But I would love to know…
how would you describe your style? xx

Mission Statement

Taking a 6 week hiatus from Uptown Twirl, has given me the time to carefully consider and gain a fresh perspective on what its future will entail.

editors letter mission statement 2 Mission Statement

Becoming a first time mum and now working on my artwork collections daily, means that like never before every second of time is precious.

When I started Uptown Twirl in June 2010, I was very much bright eyed and bushy tailed about the whole process. Uptown Twirl was my baby and I was certain it would bring me all the fashion success and happiness I so longingly desired. My articles were going to be high-quality fashion content and most importantly be informative, inspiring and helpful to women around world.

Yet like any Writer or Blogger will know, finding topics of inspiration on a daily basis to feed your creation (when you have already worked 12hr days) is an often times challenging, time consuming and exhausting debacle. The constant need for content creation; long hours spent sourcing imagery; and various social media platforms which need to be updated daily (if not hourly); have over the past few months quite honestly left me flat.

Taking this time out has reinvigorated my desire to publish quality fashion content on topics that I love and find most inspiring. So from now on, Uptown Twirl will only encompass the ideas and articles I am most passionate about.

And shortly I will be merging both my caragray.com and uptowntwirl.com websites together. Uptown Twirl will remain my blog while I continue to expand and grow my online store with fresh new pieces.

My mission is now to create an inspiring and unique fashion browsing experience. To inspire a way of living that extends beyond what you hang on your walls. A celebration of fashion, beauty and style.

Love Cara xx

FROM THE EDITOR

Dear Lovely Readers,

As you will have seen Uptown Twirl has been a little quiet lately…

editors letter maxie FROM THE EDITOR

As many of you may have suspected, on Monday the 14th of January, my husband and I welcomed our beautiful little baby boy into the world.

Maximilian Paul Gray {affectionately known as Maxie} was born at 16:16 and weighed just over 7pounds. We have spent the past week in complete awe of him and have loved every second of our new little family life.

As we settle into our new routine, Uptown Twirl posts will return to normal over the coming days.

Lots and Lots of Love

Cara xx
